How to Add the LeadTruffle Texting Widget to Shopify

Add LeadTruffle's texting widget to your Shopify storefront. Includes theme code placement, checkout limits, consent checks, and mobile testing.

Quick answer

tl;dr: To add a Shopify texting widget, copy the entire Website Texting Widget snippet from LeadTruffle, install it via the Shopify's supported custom-code approach and test the published page. The widget captures the visitor's name and phone number and the conversation goes on via SMS. Make sure to review the consent selection and account settings prior to receiving an automatic first text.

Before you install

You will require access to the Shopify theme code, a LeadTruffle account and your full widget snippet. If you're not sure about editing Liquid/HTML files, you can request that the owner of your storefront installs it.

Make a copy of the theme to edit, and have a backup of the original for reverting to. Note if the theme is currently active.

This guide will add a widget to the online storefront. It does not add a widget to the Shopify checkout, customers' accounts, Thank you and order status pages.

Step 1: Copy the current widget snippet

Copy the full account-specific Website Texting Widget embed from LeadTruffle. Keep the company identifier and initializer intact.

This widget is designed for the users who prefer to discuss a service or request a quote by text. Don't take it for granted that it's included in abandoned cart campaigns, order notifications, and ecommerce support features unless they've been explicitly stated.

Step 2: Add it to the storefront theme

From Shopify admin, navigate to Online Store β†’ Themes. On the theme you are preparing, click on Edit code in the menu.

Under Layout, open theme.liquid. Following the snippet's instructions, paste the full code before the closing </body> tag when footer placement is supported. Save the file.

Avoid inserting the code into the product description or some random theme block. See if there's an existing app, theme setting or tag manager that already loads LeadTruffle.

Shopify's theme-code guide is a guide on the code editor and what you need to know to make theme changes.

Step 3: Test the duplicate, then the live theme

Look at the duplicate theme first. Look at a home page, product or service page and a mobile layout. The widget should not cover Add to cart, navigation or a sticky contact button.

Provide your phone number and review the consent and SMS flow. Ensure the contact is received in the right LeadTruffle account.

Once the site owner is ready, put the theme online and run the test again in the public domain. Please note that any changes to a theme will not automatically be carried over to the new theme if it's installed later; you'll need to check again.

Why the old Additional scripts method is removed

The old Checkout β†’ Additional scripts field is not a current widget installation route. Shopify retired this customization model for Thank you and Order status pages and began automatic upgrades in January 2026.

Avoid using tracking pixels instead of a visible (customer-facing) widget. These are for different purposes and have their own environment.

In this article, the installation will be limited to the theme pages of the storefront. Check out Shopify's upgrade instructions.

Troubleshooting

If the widget is running in duplicate, but not running in the live, make sure to check which theme you published. If it appears two times, try to find duplicate snippets or an installed app.

If it displays correctly on desktop but covers shopping controls on mobile, review its positioning settings and other floating elements.

If an SMS is not received, review the consent selection and SMS number and LeadTruffle settings. The display script loaded is all that a visible storefront bubble can tell you.

Try both submission ways described in LeadTruffle's opt-in guide. The automated text conversation can be initiated by the visitor once the SMS consent box is checked. If that is not checked, it will not create an Inbox conversation, but instead will save the contact and provide a QR code or Text Us Now link for the user to start the text.

Maintain the provided disclosure and opt-out provisions. The checkbox is a component of the messaging flow and does not represent a commitment, or promise, that all future messaging with the number will be compliant.

Read information about the AI's business, qualification questions and rules for handoff. If you want information to be passed to your team via the relevant supported CRM integration, connect it up. Direct booking will be enabled based on the actions allowed by that integration and your settings.

Measure useful outcomes

Track widget submissions, started conversations, qualified inquiries and bookings separately. A contact is not automatically a qualified lead or a booked appointment.

If you are running paid traffic, utilize a tagged test URL and review the lead's Attribution & Tracking information. The automatic collection of available campaign and page context is provided by LeadTruffle; missing values or blocked values should be explored and not assumed to be present. FAQs

Is this a Shopify app installation?

It is a guide using a JavaScript embed in the storefront theme. It isn't a native LeadTruffle Shopify app.

Will it appear in checkout?

This theme installation does not add the widget to checkout. Handle any checkout work separately using Shopify-supported methods.

What happens if I change themes?

If you need to reinstall or migrate the snippet, do so and test the new theme before you use it.

Is this only for online stores selling physical products?

A Shopify site can also receive service inquiries. Use the widget when visitors want to discuss a job, location or appointment rather than complete an ordinary product purchase.
